Welcome
The Civil Air Patrol is an all volunteer organization which conducts
numerous activities in emergency services, our cadet program and in aerospace education.
On this website you will discover how our squadron participates in those
activities. Feel free to browse and learn about the squadron and
about the organization. If you have any questions, you may contact
any of our command staff to learn more about us and how you can
participate.
Please feel free to visit us on our meeting nights. See our
Contact Us page for directions and times. And please send us an email and let us know you're coming.
SPCS Joins IAM
The Illinois Aviation Museum has hosted the Shorty Powers Composite Squadron
since 2004. It has provided us both meeting and storage space at
no cost to us. To show our gratitude to the IAM, the squadron command staff,
on behalf of the squadron, has made a donation to the IAM in the form
of a one-year individual membership to the museum.
Inventory Started
I would like to thank Maj Baumgartner, 1Lt Newell, Capt Svoboda, C/2Lt Duncan, C/CMSgt Johnson, LTC Gross for helping today with sorting and inventorying our supplies. With the 7 of us, 25+ person-hours were spent sorting things out. We probably got 1/4 of the way done, but we have the BDU's under control now, and we've organized the storage containers so there is actually a little empty room now.
1Lt Ed Danley, Commander
1st Lt. Danley Selected as Illinois Wing Senior Member of the Year
Illinois Wing Commander Ricky Oeth sent an email on March 23 announcing the Illinois Wing "Of The Year" awards. Among them was our own commander, 1st Lt. Ed
Danley, selected as Senior Member of the Year.
Lt. Danley was surprised at the squadron's Awards Night in January to learn that his two deputies had selected him for the unit's Senior Member of the Year.
It was a challenge to keep that information from him, as he generally sees all the award selections. Lt Danley was then nominated by his deputies for the
Wing award.
"It's very satisfying to see that Ed has received this recognition", said Maj. Gerry Baumgartner, Deputy Commander for Seniors. "When you see all that he
has done in the relatively short time he's been with CAP, at multiple levels and in each of CAP's three programs, always with a smile on his face and an
outstretched helping hand, it was a no-brainer for us to select him
at the unit level. We're happy and proud that he's also been recognized at the Wing level."
Please join us in congratulating Lt. Danley!
1st Lt. Ed Danley has assumed command of the Col. Shorty Powers Composite Squadron.
